Carbon Sequestration
When population was much smaller, the world’s economy didn’t impact our living ecosystems on a global scale. However, today it appears we are quickly reaching the point where ecosystems and the services they provide, (atmosphere composition, purification of water, fisheries and forestry, and protection from storms, floods, diseases and toxic substances), are eroding. Roughly, 60 percent of all ecosystem services are being used unsustainably or in decline.
The emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is damaging one of our most precious resources, the air that we breathe. Market–based mechanisms are emerging to control the right to emit CO2. With these mechanisms come opportunities for our customers to achieve financial reward for sustainably managing their forests. Key to obtaining managed forest credits will be a reliable, accurate assessment and monitoring system of forested assets. ImageTree has developed and is now marketing to its customers the ability to accurately calculate carbon biomass, the lynchpin for carbon credit eligibility.
